The lens you buy will really really make all the difference.

I'd go with the new Canon 450D and get an amazing lens to go with it.

Good glass is worth every penny you pay for it and can make or break your shots.

I use the Canon 400D and it's a great into DSLR camera but I want to get some great glass for it but can't afford it right now.

my dad just bought a Nikon D300 which is sorta step up from the D80 as far as I know, but it is huge and cost around 1500, I think. A bargain though because it's more like 2500 in dollars. He got it on Ebay. [link] is also good because they ship to Ireland.

anyway, pihjin is right, the lens makes the camera. In that respect it might be an idea to spend less on the camera than on the lenses!

btw, a lot of the new DSLR's are boasting a "livepreview" feature so that the screen previews the shot like on a point and shoot cam... I have used that function on the D300 and it's a bit lame. I love the idea of livepreview but I ended up just using the viewfinder.
It's going to be a little while before DSLR's nail that feature.

Yeah I have the same problem with the lenses... I'm not really an expert in lenses at all!!! :XD::giggle: I have at the moment a 18 - 135mm lens which is great!!! =D Great for landscape, zoom & some portraits, if your doing portraits people recommend a 18 - 50 or 55 I think... I'm in the process of buying on of those myself!!! :XD:
